Network Security Engineer

Position Overview

The Network Security Engineer will play a key role in the design, implementation, and operation of network security controls across complex, highly available environments. This hands-on engineering position is responsible for protecting both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure through the deployment of security technologies, automation initiatives, and best practices.

Reporting to the Network & Infrastructure Security leadership team, this individual will serve as a technical expert on network security architecture and collaborate closely with infrastructure, cloud, and operations teams to ensure a secure and scalable environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain network security solutions including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and related technologies across hybrid environments.
• Act as a subject matter expert for network security technologies and provide guidance on complex security initiatives.
• Assess, recommend, and implement new security solutions to enhance overall security posture.
• Partner with infrastructure, cloud, and operational teams to integrate security controls into existing and new platforms.
• Monitor and investigate network security events, alerts, and suspicious activity, supporting incident response efforts as needed.
• Develop and maintain security standards, policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
• Support network segmentation and micro-segmentation initiatives through effective access control and policy design.
• Participate in architecture reviews for new systems, projects, and third-party integrations.
• Contribute to team development through knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Network Security Engineering.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, load balancing, and the OSI model.
• Experience securing both cloud and on-premises infrastructure environments.
• Deep knowledge of network security technologies and protocols, including:
  • Firewalls
  • VPNs
  • Proxies
  • MACsec
  • IPsec
  • SSL/TLS & certificate management
  • DNS
  • NTP
  • AAA services
  • Authentication and authorization frameworks
• Experience working with enterprise security platforms such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, F5, or comparable technologies.
• Understanding of Zero Trust architecture, network segmentation, and secure cloud networking principles.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting using tools such as Python, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting modern data center networking technologies, including VxLAN/EVPN.
• Exposure to Security Operations Center (SOC) environments or Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs).
• Experience implementing firewall automation and policy management solutions.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., PCNSE, NSE, CISSP, CCNP Security) are a plus.
