Principal Engineer, IT Infrastructure

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build resilient compute environments using virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V, with a focus on server hardware and software-defined infrastructure.
  • Lead migrations from on-premises data centers to colocation facilities and/or cloud environments, ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Enable and optimize hybrid cloud connectivity with platforms such as SAP, Salesforce, Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Manage and optimize storage solutions including SAN, NAS, and hyper-converged systems to meet performance and capacity requirements.
  • Conduct regular data backups and test recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate with system administrators to align infrastructure capabilities with current and future business needs.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and conduct periodic DR exercises.
  • Review and enhance backup architectures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for DNS, DHCP, and authentication services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP).
  • Integrate security best practices into all infrastructure designs.
  • Implement observability tools and monitor infrastructure performance to identify and resolve issues.
  • Support latency-sensitive applications through expertise in low-latency networking and high-performance storage.
  • Participate in incident response efforts, providing expert troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Address issues related to power, cooling, networking, and storage to ensure system reliability.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations and operational procedures.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management with a strong technical background.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing data center infrastructure, including power and cooling systems.
  • Expertise in virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix), storage (SAN, NAS, HCI), and networking (routing, switching, firewalls).
  • 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of high-performance and low-latency infrastructure design.
  • Proficiency with storage (e.g., Pure Storage) and backup solutions (e.g., Veeam).
  • Strong understanding of system security best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., VMware, PureStorage, Nutanix, Microsoft).
  • Willingness to provide 24/7 on-call support.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing hybrid IT infrastructure solutions (on-premises and cloud).
  • Experience with hybrid Active Directory environments (e.g., Azure AD/Entra).
  • Experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Basic understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
