We are looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer to help define and scale the frontend architecture for large, mission-critical applications. This role is ideal for an experienced frontend leader who enjoys operating at both the systems level and execution level while remaining hands-on with high-impact projects.
You will partner closely with product, design, and backend engineering to translate ambiguous requirements into durable frontend platforms. This role carries significant influence and focuses on creating leverage through architecture, standards, mentorship, and cross-team collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Define and evolve frontend architecture, frameworks, and design systems to support large-scale applications
- Partner with product, design, and backend teams to establish long-term technical roadmaps
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across experience levels
- Drive frontend engineering best practices, including testing, CI/CD, performance optimization, and accessibility
- Identify and resolve systemic challenges by introducing scalable and maintainable solutions
- Translate complex or ambiguous business needs into clear technical strategies and execution plans
- Lead design and code reviews to ensure high-quality and consistent delivery
- Represent frontend engineering in cross-team architecture discussions and influence platform-level decisions
- Stay current with emerging frontend technologies and introduce them when they create meaningful impact
- Contribute hands-on to critical initiatives while enabling other teams to move faster
What You Bring
- 10+ years of experience building modern web applications with TypeScript, React, and related ecosystems
- Proven experience leading large-scale frontend systems, including architecture, performance, accessibility, and security
- Strong track record of mentoring engineers and developing technical leaders
- Deep expertise in design systems, reusable component libraries, and cross-application UI frameworks
- Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, and senior stakeholders to shape technical strategy
- Strong background in testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and delivery best practices
- Experience working in cloud-native environments such as AWS or GCP
- Bonus experience with graph-based UIs or advanced data visualization libraries
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across teams and functions
- Passion for solving ambiguous problems and delivering high-quality user experiences at scale
- Permanent authorization to work in the United States is required, as visa sponsorship is not available
- Must be based in or within commutable distance of San Francisco to support occasional in-person collaboration while operating in a remote-first environment
