Senior Manager, AI & Data Science
A growing biopharmaceutical organization focused on developing innovative therapies for serious chronic diseases is seeking a Senior Manager, AI & Data Science to help advance its AI and data strategy within Medical Affairs. The organization operates a production AI platform supporting scientific, real-world evidence (RWE), health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and field-medical insights. This role will combine hands-on AI engineering, machine learning, and data science expertise to build scalable solutions that improve decision-making and support patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in agentic AI, large language models (LLMs), machine learning, and real-world healthcare data while thriving in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment. This individual will own projects from concept through production, working closely with platform architects, scientific stakeholders, and business partners.
Key Responsibilities
Agentic AI Systems
- Build, deploy, and maintain production AI agents and orchestration workflows using modern agentic AI frameworks.
- Design reusable components for reasoning, retrieval, tool integration, and workflow automation.
- Collaborate with user experience and application teams to deliver end-to-end AI-powered products.
Retrieval, RAG & Evaluation
- Own and optimize retrieval architectures, including vector search, hybrid search, embeddings, chunking strategies, and reranking.
- Develop evaluation frameworks and safeguards to assess LLM performance, groundedness, and citation accuracy.
- Continuously monitor and improve the quality and reliability of AI-generated insights.
Applied Machine Learning & Real-World Data
- Develop machine learning solutions leveraging claims, EHR, registry, and other healthcare datasets.
- Apply predictive modeling, embeddings, statistical methods, and advanced analytics to uncover actionable insights.
- Support evidence generation and analysis initiatives across Medical Affairs and related functions.
Data Engineering & MLOps
- Build and automate scalable data ingestion and transformation pipelines for AI/ML applications.
- Manage deployment, monitoring, observability, and performance tracking of AI systems.
- Ensure production-grade reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Governance
- Translate complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Partner with scientific, medical, engineering, and business teams to define and execute AI initiatives.
- Ensure solutions align with data privacy, compliance, governance, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated scientific rigor through advanced research, peer-reviewed publications, or a strong record of engineering and AI innovation.
- 7+ years of applied machine learning or data science experience.
- 3+ years building and deploying AI/ML systems in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks and LLM-based applications.
- Strong expertise in RAG architectures, retrieval systems, embeddings, vector search, and evaluation methodologies.
- Experience working with healthcare datasets such as claims, EHR, registry, or patient-level data.
- Knowledge of feature engineering, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis.
- Experience handling sensitive data and implementing secure, reliable production systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Background in healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences.
Preferred
- Experience with AI orchestration frameworks, observability tools, and model evaluation platforms.
- Experience deploying scalable AI agents into production environments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern enterprise data ecosystems.
- Background in real-world evidence, epidemiology, HEOR, or healthcare analytics.
- Experience supporting Medical Affairs organizations.

The organization offers a competitive compensation package that includes:

Target base salary range: $163,000 - $200,000, depending on qualifications, experience, skills, and market factors. Employees are eligible for equity participation designed to align individual contributions with company success.
