Security Engineering Lead

Glocomms is partnered with a technology-driven organization seeking a Security Engineering Lead to help define and build the future of security across a highly scaled, modern engineering environment. This role is ideal for a security professional who started their career as a Software Engineer and remains passionate about building systems, writing code, and solving complex technical problems. Rather than operating solely as a security practitioner, you will serve as a technical leader embedded within the engineering organization, developing security capabilities, influencing architecture decisions, and enabling secure software delivery at scale. This is not a hands-off leadership role.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of security platforms, services, and frameworks that are integrated directly into the software development lifecycle.
  • Partner with engineering leadership to establish secure-by-default architecture patterns across cloud-native and distributed systems.
  • Build scalable security automation using modern software engineering practices, APIs, infrastructure-as-code, and policy-as-code frameworks.
  • Drive security initiatives across application security, platform security, cloud security, and software supply chain security.
  • Develop internal tools and services that improve developer experience while reducing organizational security risk.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, threat modeling exercises, and security design consultations for critical products and services.
  • Advance container, Kubernetes, and cloud security capabilities across modern microservices environments.
  • Lead the adoption of emerging security technologies, including AI-assisted security operations, runtime protection, and next-generation detection engineering.
  • Mentor engineers and security practitioners while establishing technical standards and engineering best practices.
  • Serve as a senior technical voice during security incidents, driving root-cause analysis and long-term engineering improvements.

Key Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, security engineering, or a combination of both, with demonstrated leadership experience in complex technical environments.
  • Strong software development background with proficiency in languages such as Python, Go, Java, C#, Rust, or similar.
  • Experience designing and building production-grade systems, platforms, APIs, developer tooling, or distributed applications at scale.
  • Deep understanding of modern application security concepts including secure coding, threat modeling, software supply chain security, and vulnerability management.
  • Hands-on expertise securing public cloud environments including AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and modern developer platforms.
  • Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, cryptography, identity security, and Zero Trust architecture principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to automate security controls and integrate security capabilities directly into engineering workflows.
  • Track record of influencing engineering organizations and partnering effectively with senior technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred.

This is an opportunity to join a high-caliber engineering organization where security is viewed as a product and engineering discipline, not simply a compliance function. The successful candidate will work alongside exceptional software engineers, platform engineers, and technology leaders to build resilient systems capable of supporting ambitious growth and innovation. The role operates within a hybrid work model and requires employees to be onsite in the New York City office three days per week.
