Senior Data Scientist

An established energy organization is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead advanced forecasting and analytics initiatives focused on distributed energy technologies, demand-side programs, and electrification trends. This role is central to shaping long-term energy planning by modeling the impact of emerging technologies and public policy on electricity and gas consumption across multiple regions and grid levels.

You'll be responsible for developing scenario-based forecasts that incorporate solar generation, electric vehicles, heat pumps, energy efficiency, and storage systems. Your work will inform strategic decisions, regulatory filings, and modernization efforts, while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

  • Build long-term, data-driven forecasts using econometric and statistical modeling to assess the impact of distributed energy resources (DERs), demand-side management (DSM), and electrification.
  • Develop policy-aligned scenarios to support decarbonization goals and grid modernization strategies.
  • Integrate load modifiers into electric and gas forecasting models at system-wide, zonal, and feeder levels.
  • Analyze large-scale datasets to uncover insights and support planning and regulatory initiatives.
  • Present technical findings to both expert and non-technical audiences, including regulators and policy makers.
  • Maintain and enhance forecasting methodologies and documentation for transparency and repeatability.
  • Provide expert input and responses for regulatory proceedings, including rate cases and modernization plans.
  • Collaborate across departments-engineering, strategy, regulatory affairs-to align forecasting outputs with organizational needs.
  • Stay informed on evolving energy policies, technologies, and market trends affecting customer energy use.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, analytics, economics, public policy, energy systems, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy analytics, ideally within a regulated environment.
  • Proven experience in forecasting distributed energy technologies such as solar PV, EVs, energy efficiency, and demand response.
  • Strong background in econometrics, statistical modeling, and energy load forecasting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Python or R is required; familiarity with SQL, Git, Azure, Databricks, and Excel is a plus.
