Managing Director of Product Engineering

Glocomms is partnering with a innovative organization to bring on an experienced engineering leader to oversee the design, delivery, and evolution of enterprise software products supporting clinical research, healthcare data, analytics, and operational workflows. This individual will lead multiple engineering teams while partnering closely with product, data, operations, quality, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions in a highly regulated environment. The ideal candidate combines strong technical leadership with hands-on expertise in Java-based application development, familiarity with R-driven analytics and data science workflows, and experience delivering enterprise software products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale a software engineering organization consisting of developers, architects, technical leads, and engineering managers.
  • Define engineering strategy, technology roadmaps, delivery frameworks, and resource planning aligned with business objectives.
  • Oversee application architecture, system design, coding practices, release management, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Drive the development of enterprise software, data platforms, integration services, analytics solutions, and workflow applications using modern engineering practices.
  • Provide technical leadership in Java application architecture, analytical computing environments, and data-centric software solutions leveraging tools such as R and related technologies.
  • Partner with product, data science, operations, compliance, and customer-facing teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Ensure software products meet expectations around security, privacy, reliability, auditability, and operational excellence.Establish engineering KPIs and delivery metrics to improve software quality, team effectiveness, and execution predictability
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support cloud transformation, platform scalability, and enterprise technology initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years leading multiple engineering teams, managers, or large-scale development organizations.
  • Strong technical background in Java with the ability to contribute to architecture discussions, design reviews, and technical strategy.
  • Experience working with analytical and statistical programming technologies, including exposure to R and data-driven application development.
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale enterprise software platforms with demanding requirements for scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, APIs, distributed systems, databases, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within life sciences, healthcare technology, clinical research, pharmaceutical software, health data platforms, or other regulated industries.
  • Exposure to clinical data, analytics, reporting, data management, or research-focused technology products.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud infrastructure platforms.
  • Background modernizing legacy applications and leading large-scale transformation programs.
  • Experience building API-first and integration-focused software architectures.
  • Familiarity with software products that require strong documentation, traceability, validation, or compliance processes.
