The Role
The Director of Infrastructure will lead and execute across three core functions often divided across multiple roles: cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and security. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for building systems that are resilient, secure, scalable, and optimized for fast development cycles.Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure
- Architect, implement, and maintain a full-scale AWS environment.
- Design systems that can support bursty, high-volume data processing and AI workloads.
- Manage networking, IAM, resource boundaries, and access controls.
- Balance managed services with custom deployments based on performance, cost, and operational needs.
- Oversee cost optimization, capacity planning, and infrastructure scalability.
DevOps & Developer Experience
- Build and maintain efficient, reliable CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Design environment structures (development, staging, production) that support rapid iteration without sacrificing stability.
- Manage container orchestration and automation across the platform.
- Implement robust observability practices, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.
- Ensure engineers can deploy safely, confidently, and frequently.
Security & Compliance
- Define and lead the company's infrastructure security strategy.
- Manage secrets, identity management, access controls, and system hardening.
- Run vulnerability assessments and oversee ongoing remediation.
- Lead compliance initiatives such as SOC 2, penetration testing, and client security evaluations.
- Build scalable processes and frameworks that streamline future audits.
What You Bring
- 8+ years of experience spanning infrastructure, DevOps, or security (while continuing to be hands-on across multiple areas)
- Deep experience architecting and managing AWS environments, including networking, IAM, compute, databases, and serverless components.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation).
- Strong DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD systems, monitoring/alerting, deployment strategies, environment design, and incident response.
- Skills within setting a strategy, managing risk, and eventually building and guiding a small team.
- Experience working in fast-paced startup environments where ownership is broad and priorities shift quickly.
