Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead an established team of senior and principal engineers.
This is a true people leadership role focused on coaching, talent development, performance management, and building high-performing teams. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader who can establish credibility with technical teams while prioritizing people, culture, and organizational effectiveness over hands-on coding.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Drive performance management, career development, and employee engagement.
- Partner with technical leads, product managers, and engineering leadership to align teams around business priorities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support hiring, retention, workforce planning, and succession planning efforts.
- Help remove organizational barriers and enable teams to deliver successfully.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of engineering management experience leading software development teams.
- Proven track record developing and coaching technical talent.
- Experience managing senior and principal-level engineers.
- Strong emotional intelligence and people leadership skills.
- Ability to establish credibility with highly technical teams and engineering stakeholders.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership experience.
Preferred Background
- 10+ years of overall experience in software engineering and engineering leadership.
- Experience leading mature, highly tenured engineering teams.
- Background in enterprise software, platform engineering, developer tools, infrastructure, or related technical environments.
