As we scale, we're looking for a Director of Engineering who can elevate our technical strategy and lead high‑impact teams across frontend and backend systems.

Role Overview

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for building customer-facing fintech products and the backend systems that power them. You'll guide the development of highly available web applications using React, Java, and TypeScript, while shaping the engineering roadmap, driving architectural decisions, and coaching engineering managers and senior ICs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering teams building modern web and API-driven fintech solutions with React, TypeScript, and Java.
  • Set technical direction and architect scalable, event-driven, and highly resilient systems.
  • Partner with product, design, and data teams to deliver consumer-grade digital experiences and real-time financial capabilities.
  • Build and scale engineering processes-including CI/CD, testing automation, observability, and reliability engineering.
  • Develop and mentor engineering managers, tech leads, and senior engineers.
  • Drive delivery of multi-quarter initiatives involving payments, financial workflows, identity, risk engines, and customer experiences.
  • Ensure systems are compliant, secure, and aligned with fintech best practices (risk controls, auditability, resilience).
  • Champion a culture of ownership, innovation, and rapid iteration.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years leading engineering teams or managing managers.
  • Deep technical expertise in:
    • React and modern frontend architectures
    • Java (Spring Boot, microservices, distributed systems)
    • TypeScript (frontend or backend tooling)
  • Experience building or modernizing large-scale fintech or financial-grade systems.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, API development, service-oriented architectures, and event streaming.
  • Track record of leading complex product delivery in high‑compliance or high‑availability environments.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Location & Work Style

Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)
Onsite expectation: 2-3 days per week
