Cloud Governance Manager
A globally recognized law firm is seeking a Cloud Governance Manager to lead strategic initiatives around data governance and cloud security. This role is essential in ensuring that firm-wide data is properly classified, retained, and protected in accordance with legal, regulatory, and operational standards.
Position Summary
The Cloud Governance Manager will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive data governance framework across cloud platforms. This includes establishing policies, deploying technical controls, and collaborating with legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure secure and compliant data practices.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Framework: Develop and implement a firm-wide framework for managing data assets, leveraging tools such as Microsoft Purview Information Protection, Data Lifecycle Management, Data Loss Prevention, and other governance technologies.
Retention & Disposal Policies: Define and enforce data retention schedules and disposal procedures through technical controls that align with legal and operational requirements.
Data Classification: Create classification policies based on sensitivity, criticality, and regulatory obligations, and implement supporting controls to ensure consistent application.
Security & Privacy Oversight: Review and enhance data security and privacy controls to safeguard sensitive information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Training & Enablement: Provide training and resources to promote awareness and adoption of data governance best practices across the firm.
Collaborative Responsibilities
- Work with practice groups and administrative departments to understand data access and sharing needs and influence secure solution design.
- Partner with the Information Governance team to align with directives from the Office of General Counsel.
- Lead the deployment of Microsoft Purview and other cloud-based governance tools.
- Design reporting and alerting mechanisms to support proactive governance and compliance.
- Collaborate with security architects to develop secure design patterns for cloud platforms.
- Support the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team by documenting risks and contributing to mitigation strategies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms, data governance technologies, and security architectures.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NIST, ISO, and CSF.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to challenge existing practices and drive innovation.
- Experience with GRC tools and methodologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, or risk management.
- Preferred certifications: CISA, CISM, CISSP, CRISC, GSEC.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Purview and other data governance platforms.
- Strong understanding of risk and security frameworks.
- Experience working in regulated environments, preferably within legal or professional services.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
