Cloud Database Administrator (Oracle)

Description

3 days per week on site. 2 days remote

The role sits within a global Database Administration (DBA) engineering team, supporting mission‑critical database platforms across a large EMEA footprint. The successful candidate will play a key role in the ongoing modernisation of the database estate, with a strong focus on cloud migration, automation, resilience, and operational excellence.

This position is heavily engineering‑focused and will involve contributing to public cloud transition initiatives, primarily within AWS environments. The DBA will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting highly available, scalable, and secure database solutions, while continuously improving automation, monitoring, and self‑healing capabilities across platforms.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities include providing advanced operational support for Oracle and SQL database servers across EMEA, covering incident management, change implementation, migrations, upgrades, and disaster recovery planning. The role requires deep troubleshooting expertise, proactive system optimisation, and close collaboration with global infrastructure, application, and cloud teams. Participation in an on‑call rota is required to ensure 24/7 support coverage.

Required Skills

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years' hands‑on experience in Oracle database administration within enterprise environments. Experience with SQL Server is desirable, along with exposure to technologies such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or Hadoop. Strong AWS expertise is essential, alongside experience with Oracle RAC clusters, backup, cloning and migration tools including RMAN and Data Pump.

Disaster recovery knowledge using Data Guard, replication technologies such as GoldenGate, and solid Linux administration (Red Hat) are required. Experience with monitoring tools such as OEM, SiteScope, Prometheus, or Dynatrace is expected, as well as automation and scripting using Python, Java, PowerShell, Terraform, and CI/CD tools such as Ansible and AWX.
