VP - Data Security
Glocomms is partnered with a leading financial services institution to appoint a Vice President of Data Governance & IT Controls. This executive role will be responsible for overseeing the monitoring, testing, and validation of data-related IT controls, ensuring that data is managed securely, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
The successful candidate will lead efforts to evaluate and strengthen the firm's data governance framework, focusing on data integrity, access controls, classification, lineage, and lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive data governance control testing program, including data access, quality, retention, and protection controls.
- Oversee the monitoring and validation of IT controls related to data platforms, data warehouses, and cloud-based data environments.
- Collaborate with data stewards, compliance, and audit teams to ensure data governance policies are effectively implemented and tested.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements including SOX, GLBA, GDPR, and SEC guidelines.
- Maintain documentation and evidence of control testing activities to support internal and external audits.
- Provide executive-level reporting on data control effectiveness, risk posture, and remediation progress.
- Champion the adoption of best practices in data classification, metadata management, and data lifecycle governance.
- Manage and mentor a team of data governance analysts and IT control testers.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in IT risk, audit, or data governance within the financial services sector.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data platforms, and cloud-based data environments.
- Proven experience in control evaluation, testing methodologies, and audit processes.
- Professional certification required: CISA, CDMP, or equivalent (e.g., CISSP, CRISC).
- Deep familiarity with NIST, COBIT, ITIL, and financial regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into business insights.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
- Familiarity with GRC platforms and automated control testing solutions.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and cross-border data compliance.
This is an on-site role based out of the firm's Dallas, TX office. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the DFW Metroplex and able to work on-site 5 days per week. This is a full time, direct-hire position; candidates seeking C2C/C2H employment will not be accommodated.
