Director of Data Science
A leading non-profit is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead its Data Science & Engineering department, cultivating a data‑centric culture by building teams, infrastructure, systems, and services that enable organizational insights and power data‑driven product experiences.
The department includes the organization's full data function-analytics, reporting, data warehousing, and ETL infrastructure-and plays a central role in transforming data into a strategic advantage for mission‑driven initiatives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Partner with organizational leaders to develop and execute a data strategy aligned with short‑ and long‑term goals, including support for growth through acquisitions and partnerships.
- Foster a data‑driven culture by elevating decision‑making and delivering best‑in‑class data products that meet high performance and reliability standards.
- Enable and advocate for AI/ML‑driven products and features by building scalable machine learning infrastructure for production environments and identifying opportunities for data science and analytics application.
- Oversee Data Science, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Data Platform teams in a fast‑paced, mission‑focused environment.
- Guide the evolution of data systems, tools, and architecture, including data consolidation, governance frameworks, and unified data models across multiple entities.
- Ensure strong communication and partnership between data teams and their internal stakeholders, emphasizing responsiveness during high‑stakes periods.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 8+ years of experience managing and leading Data teams
- 2+ years leading Data organizations of 20+ people
- Expertise in applying data science to strategic and operational decision‑making
- Strong background in statistics and quantitative analysis
- Expertise in data security and compliance
- Familiarity with Data Engineering, Data Platforms, and high‑performance big data tooling
- Experience building production‑grade ML/AI systems (feature pipelines, deployment, monitoring)
- Track record of driving technical excellence and elevating engineering teams
- Effective cross‑functional collaborator able to navigate ambiguity and joint initiatives
- Strong stakeholder orientation, especially during complex or time‑sensitive scenarios
- Ability to align multiple stakeholders and organizational structures
- Experience leading data integration efforts through M&A, including centralized data lakes, harmonized models, and governance frameworks

Salary Range: $213,918 - $242,511 - $271,104
