Compensation: $160,000-$175,000 base + bonus + comprehensive benefits

The Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on Manager of Software Engineering to lead a small, high-performing team building and supporting modern, cloud-native Java applications. This is a true player‑coach role-ideal for a manager or tech lead who enjoys coding and architecture but is ready to grow their impact through mentorship, technical leadership, and people management.
This role is approximately 50% hands-on coding and 50% team leadership, with a strong emphasis on staying close to the code. We are not looking for someone who has stepped away from day-to-day development-this role requires a hands-on technical leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of Java-based applications deployed on AWS
- Remain deeply hands-on with coding, code reviews, architecture decisions, and debugging on a day-to-day basis
- Build and evolve RESTful APIs that are scalable, secure, and production-ready
- Serve as a technical lead for the team while managing sprint execution and delivery commitments
- Mentor and coach engineers, supporting technical growth and best engineering practices
- Collaborate closely with product, QA, and operations partners to deliver end-to-end solutions
- Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform health and technical direction
- Contribute to continuous improvements around CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and system reliability
What We're Looking For
- Advanced proficiency in Java (core Java, Spring/Spring Boot preferred)
- Strong, hands-on experience with AWS services in production environments
- Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example as a hands-on technical manager or tech lead
- Experience mentoring engineers or providing project-level technical leadership
- Comfortable operating as a working manager-coding frequently while guiding the team
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams
- Background in financial services is a plus, but not required
