Director of Computer Vision
Overview
A market-leading enterprise software and AI company is seeking a Director of Computer Vision to lead the strategy, research, and engineering execution of its computer vision platform. The organization develops AI-powered solutions used globally across public sector, industrial, transportation, healthcare, retail, and critical infrastructure environments.
This executive leadership role will be responsible for defining the long-term technical vision for computer vision and AI initiatives, leading large-scale research and engineering teams, driving platform innovation, and overseeing the development and deployment of production-grade AI systems at scale. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in computer vision and machine learning with proven experience leading sizable engineering organizations and delivering enterprise AI products.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Technical Strategy
- Define and own the long-term research roadmap for computer vision and visual AI capabilities.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation across research and engineering teams.
- Evaluate emerging AI and computer vision technologies and identify opportunities for adoption.
- Drive critical technical decision-making, including architecture direction and build-versus-buy evaluations.
Engineering Leadership & Execution
- Provide executive-level leadership across computer vision research and engineering functions.
- Define platform architecture, technical strategy, and engineering roadmaps for scalable AI systems.
- Translate business and product requirements into technical specifications and deliver production-ready solutions.
- Ensure successful execution of large-scale AI and computer vision initiatives with measurable business impact.
Organizational Leadership
- Lead and scale a globally distributed organization of computer vision researchers, machine learning engineers, and software engineers.
- Mentor senior technical leaders and establish hiring strategies for attracting world-class talent.
- Drive organizational effectiveness, team growth, and technical excellence across multiple groups.
- Must have experience managing organizations of at least 50 people, including multiple layers of leadership and geographically distributed teams.
AI Platform & MLOps
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of foundational computer vision models and AI platform services.
- Establish best practices for model development, deployment, monitoring, optimization, and governance.
- Lead scalable MLOps initiatives across cloud and edge environments.
- Ensure high system reliability, model performance, and operational efficiency.
Performance & Operations
- Define and track key technical metrics including latency, throughput, reliability, model performance, and operational efficiency.
- Identify bottlenecks and continuously improve engineering processes and delivery practices.
- Drive operational excellence across research, engineering, and deployment workflows.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of leadership experience managing computer vision, machine learning, or AI engineering organizations.
- Proven track record building and deploying enterprise-scale AI platforms and production systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing, optimizing, or researching computer vision technologies.
- Deep expertise in computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, and MLOps.
- Experience defining technical strategy, architecture, and long-term roadmaps for large-scale AI platforms.
- Strong understanding of real-time inference, video analytics, model optimization, and AI performance metrics.
- Demonstrated success leading large, distributed engineering and research organizations.
- Required experience managing teams and organizations of 50+ people, including senior managers and technical leaders.
- Strong ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into executable technical plans.
- Experience operating in fast-paced, high-growth, or startup-like environments with significant ownership and autonomy.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and executive stakeholders.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $250,000 - $290,000
- Annual Performance Bonus: Eligible
- Equity/Stock Compensation: Eligible
- Total compensation will be determined based on experience, leadership background, technical expertise, and overall fit for the role.
