Principal Data Scientist, BioMedical Imaging

A leading organization in the pharmaceutical and clinical research space is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to spearhead innovation in medical imaging analytics. This role is ideal for a visionary scientist passionate about applying AI and deep learning to transform clinical trial processes and improve patient outcomes.

You will lead the development of cutting-edge models for automated image analysis, disease progression tracking, and treatment response evaluation using modalities such as MRI, X-ray, CT, and PET. Collaborating with cross-functional teams-including clinical operations, radiology, and regulatory affairs-you'll help shape the future of data-driven drug development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy deep learning models for medical image analysis, with emphasis on MRI and X-ray applications.
  • Build automated pipelines for image segmentation, disease detection, and quantitative analysis across therapeutic areas.
  • Develop longitudinal imaging solutions to monitor disease progression and assess treatment efficacy, including AI-based biomarkers.
  • Integrate imaging analytics into clinical trial workflows and protocols.
  • Collaborate with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with standards for imaging endpoints.
  • Architect scalable systems for processing large imaging datasets from multi-site clinical trials.
  • Communicate insights and model performance to internal leadership and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related discipline with a focus on medical imaging.
  • Minimum 5 years of post-PhD industry experience in developing production-grade AI models for medical imaging.
  • Expertise in computer vision and deep learning architectures (e.g., CNNs, U-Net, Vision Transformers).
  • Hands-on experience with MRI and X-ray analysis, including familiarity with DICOM standards and imaging software.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with proficiency in PyTorch, TensorFlow, and relevant imaging libraries.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with clinical and radiology teams to translate medical needs into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting complex analytics to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with regulatory submissions involving imaging endpoints or AI-based tools.
  • Familiarity with multi-modal imaging fusion (e.g., combining MRI, CT, PET).
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and imaging core lab operations.
  • Knowledge of federated learning or privacy-preserving techniques in medical imaging.
  • Background in radiomics and quantitative biomarker development.
  • Experience with 3D image reconstruction and volumetric analysis.
